Jeanette M. Tetrault, MD FACP | Assistant Professor of Medicine Yale University School of Medicine
Jennifer Edelman, MD, MHS | Yale University School of Medicine
Module Description
People with opioid use disorders are commonly infected with Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and/or HIV.  It is important that all providers delivering treatment to individuals with opioid use disorders understand appropriate prevention, screening and treatment strategies of HCV and HIV and specific considerations for people receiving opioid agonist therapy.  This includes an understanding of the latest technology used for detection of HCV and HIV, appropriate use of highly effective antiviral therapy, and recognition of potential interactions with methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone.  A strong foundation in understanding HCV and HIV prevention and treatment strategies is important for all providers treating individuals with opioid use disorders.
