Nick Chudnow died on Oct. 4, 2017, of an overdose of fentanyl, making him one of 466 people in Wisconsin that year who died from synthetic opioid use.
Nick, who was 29, was the only child of Dick, the founder of ComedySportz, and his wife Jennifer Rupp, a writer, actor and a co-founder of Milwaukee’s Renaissance Theaterworks.
In Nick’s memory, his parents started the Chudnayshun Fund, which supports nonprofit organizations that work in drug abuse prevention, education and treatment. “We are particularly drawn to programs that can reach young people before they become addicted,” the fund’s mission statement declares.
Dick Chudnow is dedicating proceeds from his new book, “The Color Diet” (Outskirts Press), to the Chudnayshun effort. It’s a relentlessly goofy parody of diet books, based on the principle of eating only foods of a single color each day — nutty, but at least as coherent as many real diet books. It’s silliness that’s serving a serious cause.
