April 6, 2018 by ATForum

“US Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Thursday issued a nationwide advisory — the first from his office in 13 years — for more people to get access to and training for the overdose-reversing drug naloxone.

Adams unvailed the message at the National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit, a meeting of public health experts and law enforcement officials all grappling with an epidemic of fatal overdoses across the country that killed more than 63,000 people in 2016.

The report compiled by the CDC pulled data from the National Vital Statistics System, analyzing drug overdose deaths in the 31 states and the District of Columbia which regularly identify the type of drug involved in mortality files.”
