“Thousands of doctors are objecting to President-elect Donald Trump’s pick of Rep. Tom Price, MD, to lead the Department of Health and Human Services — and then there are thousands who think it’s a great idea.
The AMA along with several dozen other “organized medicine” voices like the choice, but those who are opposed are waging a digital campaign to publicize their dismay at Price, Trump, and the AMA.
Southern California cardiologist Eric Adler, MD, is one of 6,000 physicians — 1,000 from California — who signed an online letter protesting Price. It’s titled, “The AMA Does Not Speak For Us.”
Adler is opposed to the AMA’s Nov. 29 statement of strong support for Price, an AMA member, orthopedic surgeon, and Republican Congressman from Georgia whose conservative health policies positioned him to run the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Trump’s cabinet.
Adler claims that if Price gets confirmed, he will make it more difficult and more expensive for people to access healthcare and even if they do gain access it would be with high deductible plans.”
