“President-elect Trump makes two critical appointments that signal the health policy goals for his administration and the House passes legislation to bring new drugs and devices to market more quickly.
President-elect Donald Trump’s chose Rep. Tom Price, MD (R-Ga.) to run the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) this week. Price has had a long history in medicine, as well as in state and federal politics and has spoken to MedPage Today several times over the years; here is a sampling of those interviews, along with a timeline of his career.
Trump also chose healthcare consultant Seema Verma, MPH to run the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a selection that suggests the focus of CMS for the next few years will be largely on Medicaid, said one health policy expert.
“This definitely signals that Medicaid reform will be a top priority under the Trump administration,” Caroline Pearson, senior vice-president of policy and strategy at Avalere, a healthcare consulting firm in Washington, said in a phone interview Tuesday.”
